What is YOUR Plan B?

A plan is defined as “a method for achieving and end” (Merriam-Webster.com). But why is having a plan important? If you look at the facts, creating and following a plan for your business not only saves time, but helps achieve better outcomes. In other words, you and your business are more EFFECTIVE and more EFFICIENT, two of my favorite words. Any good plan has contingencies or back-up alternatives built in, commonly referred to as Plan B. If your primary or Plan A approach does not or is not working, you have a well thought back-up plan- Plan B.
So what is your back-up plan? Is it a back-up drive or flash drive that you use occasionally (not bad, but are you confident your data will be there when you need it)? Do you subscribe to an off-site plan such as Carbonite (better, but if it takes a week to move your data to their servers, how long do you think it will take to get it back)? Or do you cross your fingers, and hope that your 5 year old server that sits in that small, dusty closet will just keep on keeping on? Have you put caution tape across that door, hoping no one disturbs the fragile environment it sits in so you can get a few more months out of it (Hmmm . . . I wouldn’t go to Vegas with those odds!)?
According to Ready.gov, 62% of businesses have no back-up or disaster plan. That’s right, you read it correctly. 60% of businesses have ZERO plans in the event of a disaster or complete data loss. Want more? 40% of businesses affected by a disaster never re-open. Are you squirming a little? Is this you?
Never fear though, your plan B has arrived! At pcCentral, we back-up everything 3X daily. So sleep soundly tonight, because you are not one of the 62%.
